Mittens, again

Well, FINE then.

Maybe I could have just made these mitties.  The latest edition of the online mag knitty  posted a pattern for the Olla mittens today.  I just love the leaf detail on the cuffs. Maybe rather than trying to fudge a pattern on my own, I should have just made these.    The sssstarter mitts are pretty cute, too.

But, alas, I will stay my stubborn self and continue to fudge along with my Red Not-Rasta Mittens (the name I've given these little guys already.

More to come.

A Krunchy Start

Those who know me know that I get bored.  So trust me to try making mittens again after a long time without a pattern, but an idea.  I'll probably end up frogging the darn thing, but what's life with out risks.

I recently made the Red Rasta Cowl by eweknit.  I knit it up quite quickly while watching the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special using Malabrigo Rasta in Pagoda.  (I so love knitting with any single ply yarn, but especially with Malabrigo.)  I just love and I mean L_O_V_E wearing this cowl. It's like wearing a warm, warm hug around my neck.

So, earlier this week, I went to my LYS - unraveled - and picked up some Mal worsted, also in Pagoda, to make some mitts.  I didn't just want straight mittens, though, I wanted to echo the double rib and basket weave of the top of the cowl.  I'm about half way up the thumb gusset now, and so far so good.  I'm jotting the pattern down, currently on a napkin, but I think that this actually might work.  The front of the mitts will have the basket weave, while the underside and thumb will be stockinette.
